Patron Sophie Raworth opens our Family-Centred Care Co-ordinator post launch
News
First Touch Patron, Sophie Raworth opened the celebrations on the 21st November of the launch of the neonatal unit's new Family-Centred Care Co-ordinator post. This is a joint three year project with Bliss, the national premature baby charity, and is also supported by the South-West London Perinatal Network.
The full-time post is job-shared between Lyndsey Hookway and Bobbie Everson, who have already made a huge difference to the experience of the families here at St George's Hospital. Their role is to provide information and support to parents in order to better prepare them for the very unique and emotionally challenging experience of having a baby on the neonatal unit. This innovative role was developed by St George's neonatal staff (notably Mary Goggin and Doris Jackman) in partnership with Bliss and First Touch. Bliss hopes to use this experience to roll out further posts across the country.
The evening was a huge success, attended by St George's staff across all levels, supporters and trustees of First Touch, staff of Bliss and some very special guests, including some of our very own neonatal unit graduates! We would like to thank the following people for giving some very moving speeches: BBC News presenter, Sophie Raworth, the Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Mrs Jane Cooper, First Touch trustees, Kim Caddy and Nicola O'Connor, Bliss CEO, Andy Cole and our fantastic new Family-Centred Care Co-ordinators, Lyndsey and Bobbie.
First Touch are delighted to have been involved in such a groundbreaking project and would like to thank all those involved in helping it become a reality.
