A very generous donation from Friends of Donhead Primary for First Touch!

First Touch was delighted to welcome back Olivia Rodrigues to the unit today. Olivia’s daughter Genevieve was born extremely prematurely and cared for at St George’ s neonatal unit in 2019. Olivia and the Friends of Donhead Primary School raised an amazing £10.000 for First Touch, and £5000 for Ronald Macdonald House charity. Katie Mulroe, from the friends of Donhead, and Catherine Hitchcock, headteacher of Donhead Primary were on hand with Olivia to present us with the cheque, and took the opportunity to see how we use the funds raised by our generous supporters. We were able to show them aspects of our family welfare scheme such as tea, coffee, drinks and snacks for parents for those days when you just don’t want to leave the unit, as well as state of the art medical equipment such as our videolaryngoscope and ventilators funded by First Touch. Catherine told us that Donhead Primary school have been awarded their Prem Aware Award from The Smallest Things Charity. This award and training scheme raises awareness of the impact of prematurity on development and learning, supports parents and carers, and helps schools to recognise and meet the specific learning needs of children born prematurely. We always love to hear about ongoing care for our babies and families, and are absolutely delighted to have been chosen by the Friends of Donhead Primary as their charity!
