Christmas on the neonatal unit

We know that spending Christmas on the neonatal unit can be hard for families. We know that you hadn’t imagined that your baby’s first Christmas would be spent with us. First Touch provide a range of treats and experiences to give families facing Christmas in hospital with a sick baby the happiest experience possible and to spread a bit of cheer to the wonderful staff who give up their own family Christmas to look after the babies and their families on Christmas Day.

First up, from December 1st, the Elf on the shelf starts making an appearance around the unit, see if you (and baby’s siblings!) can spot him on all the days in the lead up to Christmas!

On December 19th, Mr and Mrs Claus will be visiting the unit, together with some Christmas elves. They will be stopping at all the babies’ cots to take photos, and hand out a small gift to babies and their siblings.

In the run up to Christmas, we’ll be handing out ‘The night before Christmas’ for mums and dads to read to their babies.

There will be a filled stocking for each baby on Christmas day.

There will be festive treats for families on Christmas eve, Christmas day and Boxing day in the family rooms. Families will also be able to get vouchers to have a Christmas meal in the Ingredients restaurant.

For the excellent staff working over the holidays we provide food over the three days to say ‘thank you for your service and love.’  Santa also brings a small gift to each of member of staff.

From the First Touch family to yours: we wish you a merry and peaceful festive season filled with love.
