UNICEF Baby friendly Gold award

We are delighted to share the news of St George’s neonatal unit Baby Friendly Gold Award!

This prestigious award is the very highest honour in the Baby Friendly accreditation program. Full Baby Friendly accreditation is given to units who can show that they have adopted the 3 neonatal standards (supporting close relationships between baby and parents, enabling breastmilk use, and valuing parents as partners in care).

The Gold award takes this a step further, and is only awarded to health services that successfully embed these sustainable, evidence-based infant feeding and parent-infant relationship standards into their daily leadership, culture, and practice.

St George’s is the only neonatal unit in London to achieve this standard, and one of only 6 units in the UK!

The award is not only a credit to our wonderful infant feeding team (Rebecca Miles, Hayley Burgess and Miriam Saez Perez) but also to the leadership team (Dr Nicola Crowley, Neonatal Consultant, Jo Hunter, Deputy Chief Nurse for St George’s and Baby Friendly Guardian) without whose involvement, enthusiasm and support the award could not have happened!

Of course, the award is to the whole team: doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals all embedding the standards in the care they deliver!

We could not be prouder of you all!
